Juice Plus is a branded line sold through NSA (National Safety Associates) distributors and multi-level marketing business model.

Basically, what their products are dietary supplements containing concentrated fruit and vegetable juice extracts fortified with added vitamins and nutrients.

NSA was based in Collierville, Tennessee (USA) that was selling fire and smoke detectors, later on expanding to air and water filtration systems.

The company’s mission statement is “Inspiring Healthy Living Around the World”. Sounds great, right? Who doesn’t want to be healthy these days, ha?

But does Juice Plus really deliver high-quality products and could these serve as a good foundation for building a business?

Who is the Founder?

What is Juice Plus About? - The Founder

Jay Martin used to be a school teacher when he decided to turn into an entrepreneur, founding NSA in 1970.

Jay has shown his competitive spirit, leadership, loyalty, and teamwork and being an advocate of a healthy lifestyle since early ages when he used to be a college basketball player at Wake Forest University.

Nowadays he continues to adhere to an active and healthy lifestyle, being an avid golfer and recreational jogger, as well as completing 14 consecutive New York City Marathons.

What is Juice Plus’ Financial Situation?

Juice Plus revenue was growing tremendously over the last couple of years.

According to BusinessForHome.org, they went from $550 million in 2015 to $680 in 2018.

In 2019 though, they have registered a decrease in revenue by 2%.

Still, 2% is not that much if to compare with other MLM companies which register even more decline in financial indicators.

What Are Juice Plus Products?

Juice Plus products are marketed as “the next best thing to eating fruits and vegetables”.

These are supposed to contain the “nutritional essence of 17 different fruits, vegetables, and grains” with key phytonutrients and that the product is absorbed by the body, reduces oxidative stress, promotes cardiovascular wellness, supports a healthy immune system, and helps protect DNA.

However, there were some studies, conducted by Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, University of California Berkeley, Center for Science in the Public Interest) that produced conflicting results as to the truth of these claims.

What is Juice Plus About? - The Products

Thus, Juice Plus products are aimed to help bridge the gap between what you should eat and what you do eat.

So, please note that they aren’t intended to replace fruits and vegetables in your diet.

Juice Plus products are coming in capsules and chewable forms, containing juice powder concentrates from 30 different fruits, vegetables, and grains. The Juice Plus blends are as follows:

  • Orchard blend: Fruits (apple, peach, cranberry, orange, papaya, acerola cherry, pineapple, prune, date, and beet).
  • Garden blend: Vegetables (Broccoli, parsley, tomato, carrot, garlic, beet, spinach, cabbage, oat bran, rice bran, and kale).
  • Vineyard blend: Berries (Raspberry, bilberry, blueberry, cranberry, pomegranate, concord grape, black currant, blackberry, elderberry, artichoke, and cocoa).

Some of the other products you can find at Juice Plus are meal replacement shakes, soups and bars.

Are Juice Plus Products Any Good?

Juice Plus supplements also include a number of added ingredients, including:

  • Calcium
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin E
  • Carotenoids
  • Soluble fiber (glucomannan)
  • Enzymes
  • Dried probiotics (Lactobacillus acidophilus)
  • Folic acid

It’s interesting though that the exact quantities of ingredients in Juice Plus+ supplements are not listed. This means the exact nutrient composition isn’t available.

However, there are some studies that show Juice Plus products are providing poor in nutrient value.

For example, ConsumerLab.com has found that Juice Plus Garden Blend contained only 76.4% of its claimed calcium, labeled as just 4% of the Daily Value per serving.

Not surprisingly, Juice Plus products receive mediocre ratings and numerous customer complaints.

On top of that, Juice Plus products are already perceived by customers as being overpriced.

The question is if you would become Juice Plus distributor, could you stand behind these products?

How Much Does it Cost to Join Juice Plus? What is Juice Plus About? - Virtual Franchise

If you want to sign up as Juice Plus distributor (they call them Virtual Franchise), there is a $52 application fee to be paid and that’s basically it.

The good news is that there is no required purchase to become a Juice Plus+ partner, no Starter Kits, or anything like that.

Some of the other MLM companies, like Arbonne, for example, require its representatives to purchase products on a monthly basis.

How to Make Money With Juice Plus?

Juice plus is using MLM business model so the way you can make money with Juice Plus is the same as with Amway, Herbalife, Avon, Mary Kay, Oriflame, etc.

In Juice Plus, there are 5 ways to earn an income:

Sales Profit – 10% of the price

For example, if you’d sold Juice Plus Trio Blend which is $300, then you would earn $30 per sale.

Commissions – there are 3 different commission levels: 5%, 10%, and 15% on product volume generated by you. At Juice Plus, the product volume is the price. Taking that same Juice Plus Trio product example, the product volume for this product is 300.

Title Rewards

The third way to earn is by reaching a new title. The higher your title is, the greater the amount of money you can make.

Performance Bonuses (PB) – 3%-15%

Bonuses are earned through team building and leverage the efforts of a team.

These are available only for the top positions in the Compensation pan structure. The incentives and benefits included are medical insurance, dental, vision, life, health advocate, disability, holiday checks, college tuition, etc.

Do They Allow You to Use the Internet to Build Your Business?

Once you become Juice Plus distributor, you are going to be offered your personalized website you can use to drive more sales, for which you will be charged an annual administration fee.

Besides that, there are also apps you can use on-the-go form your phone.

Is Juice Plus Legitimate?

Juice Plus is a member of the Direct Selling Association (DSA) and thus, commits to ethical business practices and consumer protection.

The company that is selling Juice Plus products has been in business for over 50 years and it received an A+ rating on BBB (Better Business Bureau).

Although overall, it’s receiving a good deal of customer complaints, Juice Plus is remaining a legitimate business.

Can You Make Money With Juice Plus?

At first sight, selling Juice Plus might seem easy since the company handles all order processing, shipping, billing, and collecting – so you don’t have to.

Your job is to simply share the information about Juice Plus products and the business opportunity.

There are several ways in which you can make money with Juice Plus but we want to know if the system works, right?

For this purpose, it’s good to have a look at some sort of document that would disclose how much Juice Plus Virtual Franchises are making on average.

To be honest, it was quite difficult to find this kind of document covering representatives from all the countries where Juice Plus business opportunity is available.

I was able to find only for Australia and New Zeland Juice PLus income disclosure statement for 2018:

What is Juice Plus About? - 2018 Income Summary

As you can see from this chart, 70% of Juice Plus consultants earned between $222-$320  in the entire 2018 year.

Some people on the higher ranks (28,4%) earned between $2 039-$11 619 for the whole 2018 year, and if we divide those numbers by 12, we’ll receive anything between $170 and $969 per month income.

Finally, we get to the top Juice Plus earners who are not even 1%!

I am here to conclude that, unfortunately, Juice Plus is another MLM company that confirms the statistics in the MLM industry, which says that less than 1% of people who join any MLM company will make a profit.

Please note that the commissions earned from Juice Plus don’t include expenses.

Let’s not forget that if you decide to join Juice Plus then you’ll need to put in time and money to grow your downline.

If we want to look at the net income (I am sure this is what matters the most for you and me), I believe that after expenses, most Juice Plus+ franchisees are losing money.

The Good and The Bad

#1. No Purchase Requirements to Get Started + No Starter Kits

According to Juice Plus Rules of Conduct, there is no required purchase to become a Juice Plus+ partner.

There is no need for you to make any investment in product packages, Starter Kits, or anything like that.

While this is a great thing, in essence, I believe that you are going to still need to purchase Juice Plus products for personal consumption, if you haven’t tried them yet.

Otherwise, how do you think you are going to know which product to promote according to your customers’ specific needs?

In order to sell Juice Plus products successfully, you want to be a trustworthy source for your potential customers so that they have the confidence to buy from you over and over again.

#2. Free Training and Support

There are lots of materials and training support available that you can use for free to start and build your Juice Plus business.

#3. Few Customer Complaints on BBB

There are only 7 customers complains submitted on BBB site in the last 3 years. Some of the other MLM companies (like, for example, Monat business), are receiving way more customer complaints on this website.

The issues people are having with Juice Plus are problems with product/service, advertising, and billing/collections issues.

Out of those 7, only 3 complaints were closed in the last 12 months so, probably, there is room for improvement in terms of the quality of customer service.

#1. Juice Plus Marketing is Unsupported by Research Data

As I have already mentioned earlier, numerous health benefits of Juice Plus products are not backed by any scientific research or data.

On the opposite, there are some trustful researches indicating that in fact, Juice Plus products can’t provide the health benefits they claim to.

#2. Available On Some Online Shopping Platforms

Juice Plus products could be found for sale on Amazon, eBay, and other online shopping platforms, so it might be even more challenging to get customers to buy from you, as a Juice Plus distributor.

#3. Sales Requirements

In order to qualify for earning monthly commissions, bonuses, or title advancements, you must meet product sales requirements.

Thus, according to the Juice Plus compensation plan, those requirements are between 500-2000 product points.

If you don’t meet those requirements, obviously, you are not going to earn anything.

#4. Expensive Products

Prices for Juice Plus products range between $70 USD and all the way up to $300 USD. This might be quite an expensive cost to pay for families with modest, or even average budgets.

In turn, it could be quite challenging to sell these products and make a living from that.

My Final Opinion About Juice Plus + A Better Alternative

Considering the high cost of these supplements and the lack of evidence of any real health benefits, I believe it worths thinking twice before you buy them.

The same is true for their business opportunity. There are too much work and time commitment associated with building an MLM business with almost no return.

Let me tell you that building your own business shouldn’t be that hard. If you are open to other options, I would recommend looking into blogging and affiliate marketing

  1. Thanks for breaking this down, Natalie.

I always know that if I am questioning an MLM offer, then to check with you first. I cannot believe how hard it is to make a full-time income through this program.

You would need to promote this and other MLM programs at the same time to pay all of your bills each month. That’s a lot of work if you don’t have a downline set in place already.

    • Hi, Greg,

      Thank you for your comment.

Some MLM companies don’t even let you promote other MLM offers simultaneously, so you have to be very careful and study all the documents and agreements before joining.

  2. Thanks for the very thorough review of yet another MLM.

I was part of Arbonne for a few months and honestly, I can’t believe I was ever part of one of “those”.

I don’t think it is all bad and I actually loved Arbonne’s products, but, like any MLM, the products are so overpriced and I never liked selling such expensive products to people.

I don’t have a problem with network marketing if it’s a legitimate business, but somehow, I think most of the time, you can find just as good or better products somewhere else for less.

I quickly got tired of it. Luckily I don’t lose much money, but I also didn’t make much. I would never join an MLM again because it is clearly not for everyone.

I have known people who were able to become successful with it, but it’s just simply not for me.

Again, thanks for the review. It’s always interesting to me about those companies.

  3. Thank you so much for this review, Natalie!

One of my former co-workers bought products from Juice Plus, and she was highly disappointed, confiscated the evidence immediately, and left a negative review.

In fact, I think one of those negative reviews belong to her 🙂

It definitely seems as if Juice Plus is falsely advertising its products, does not offer a quality product, and is ripping people off. Needless to say, I will be steering clear of them.

    God bless you!

  4. Natalie,

It seems the average person would not make so much from this program per year even though they have been around since 71’ and also their program is not backed by research data.

Thanks for a closer look at this product. Thank you for sharing.

    ~Sir Wilbert
